Each level in Criminal Case comes complete with nine different crime scenes to complete. In addition to the regular assortment of hidden objects for players to find, special clues are also hidden in some of the stages. Players have to find these clues and analyse them to provide hints on the identity of the murder. Help is provided from the forensics team as well as other police officers.

One of the most interesting things about Criminal Case is the sheer variety and number of tasks that players are presented with. These include putting together torn papers to form a picture, dusting items for prints, putting together items to discover their identity and much more. Each of the levels features a different theme and a new story to unravel. At the end of each level players are presented with new clorrhing and accessories that they can use to change the look of their avatar, while more new looks can be purchased with gaming coins at any time during the game.

Players are also given their own side kick animal to accompany them through the game. A large number of different animals are available to choose from at different stages of the game including different kinds of dogs, tigers, pandas and even aliens. These animals provide players with different types of bonuses when they complete certain crime scenes such as level points, gaming coins and special cards that can be traded in for coins or energy.
